On so many levels Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown’s karate kick on Cleveland Browns punter Spencer Lanning was hilarious and the play of the day on the first NFL Sunday.
Brown, a proud Central Michigan Chippewa alum (like your’s truly–Fire up Chips!), went to leap over Lanning but sometime in mid-flight determined he wasn’t going to be able to clear the punter. At that point he just decided to go with the Karate Kid Daniel LaRusso crane kick. A tremendous shot that resulted in a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. Well worth the yellow flag and the fact it happened to a punter who I don’t consider a football player to begin with–even better.
Of course a clever YouTuber out there put together a hilarious Mashup to the Karate Kid. Antonio-san!
1320 KFAN BYU and NFL analyst Brady Poppinga joined Gunther and Graham to discuss the rivalry with Utah, the good old days and what the Cougars need to do to get the win. He also shared his thoughts on week one of the NFL including the San Francisco 49ers win over the Green Bay Packers. Poppinga dropped perhaps one of the better recruiting stories you’ll hear. When he went on his visit to BYU before committing former Cougar and current Pittsburgh Steeler Brett Keisel was one of his hosts. Apparently at one point Keisel tried to kill multiple deers (possibly drunk). You can hear Poppinga tell the story at the 17:45 mark.
On one side you have a prison look gone bad. On the other as pointed out by NBCSports.com you have the “Where’s Waldo” style. So which is worse–the new Pittsburgh Steelers 80th Season throwback jersey or the new U.S. Mens National Soccer Team jersey? Both are bad but I’m pretty sure you have to go with the Steelers. I get a headache just looking at them. One thing we did learn is that athletes don’t look good in wide stripes!
